https://www.journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/jbiologi/article/view/636

Grasshoppers (Orthoptera) are insects commonly found in various terrestrial habitats and play an important role in ecosystems. This study aims to investigate the species diversity of grasshoppers in the University of Padang Air Tawar Barat Campus area. The methods used include visual surveys conducted in the morning and evening, with specimen collection in gardens and open fields. Specimens were collected, preserved, and identified morphologically, and analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener index. The results showed the presence of 6 species from 3 families and 5 subfamilies. The diversity index values indicated a fairly even species distribution (E’ = 0.8192) and medium species richness (Dmg = 2.085). These findings reflect the campus ecosystem’s continued support for the presence of various Orthoptera species and highlight the importance of preserving their conservation.
Niken MustikaOctavia Putri AzzahriantoSyamsurizal

https://www.journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/jbiologi/article/view/708

Dekke na niarsik is a traditional Batak tribe cuisine rich in indigenous knowledge values related to biodiversity. The low level of students’ understanding of biodiversity, particularly in plant and animal classification, poses a challenge in biology education. Therefore, this study aims to explore dekke na niarsik through an ethnobiological approach and create an educational video embedded with indigenous knowledge. The research method was field exploration using interview, observation and documentation techniques. The results showed that making dekke na niarsik involved 15 species, consisting of 14 plants and one animal, with the plant parts used including rhizomes, fruits, flowers, stems and tubers. The unique cooking technique was pouring spices until the sauce dries, using traditional tools such as balanga, pestle, piso and stove. Besides enriching learning, Dekke na niarsik also contains noble values such as cooperation, blessings and respect for nature. The educational video of the research can be accessed through the YouTube link https://youtu.be/AzioUSIMCQs. This research is expected to improve students’ understanding of biodiversity through a more contextual approach and foster a sense of pride and responsibility for the cultural heritage.
Daniel Shilkia MarpaungGiovani HutabaratSekina GloryJelina SaitaumaTesalonika SimanjuntakKeiza Christin SimamoraListraFajar Adinugraha

https://www.journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/jbiologi/article/view/722

Trichoderma is one of the biological control agents that has been proven effective in controlling plant pests (OPT). Trichoderma can suppress the development of pathogenic fungi in durian plants by 99%. Making Trichoderma sp. growth media on a large scale requires a lot of money, therefore alternative materials are needed to replace rice as the main ingredient in making mushroom growth media. Therefore, corn and bran media are used because the nutritional content of both media is sufficient for the growth of Trichoderma sp. fungi. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of corn and bran media on the growth of Trichoderma sp. The experiment was conducted at the PHPTPH Pandaan Laboratory, Pasuruan for one month. The results showed that corn media accelerated mycelium growth, while bran media produced higher spore density.
SupyantoArgus

https://www.journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/jbiologi/article/view/664

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is an outbreak caused by the Aphtovirus virus and is experienced by ruminant livestock. FMD in the Legung Barat area, Batang-Batang, Sumenep usually occurs during the transitional season or weather. The entry and exit of livestock to the animal market is one of the factors of FMD transmission in livestock. The purpose of this study was to determine the physical condition of cattle and the population of cattle affected by FMD in the Legung Barat area, Sumenep. The study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method, using case study methods, interviews, direct observation in the field and data collection obtained through field notes. The results of this study showed a cattle population of 200 heads and 60 heads were affected by FMD. Treatment was carried out using traditional and modern methods. FMD can cause economic losses for cattle farmers in the Legung Barat area because the cattle that are raised will be traded. Therefore, farmers must pay more attention to the cleanliness and health of cattle. One way to prevent FMD is to vaccinate before the cattle are infected with the disease and farmers must always ensure that the cattle are in good health.
Nufitri WahyuniAkhmad Ferdiansyah

https://www.journal.ua.ac.id/index.php/jbiologi/article/view/738

Hydroponic plant cultivation is the main choice for young farmers. Hydroponics has many advantages compared to conventional farming. Pests/diseases are still a problem in hydroponic plant cultivation. Pest control in hydroponic plants cannot be relied on pesticides alone. This study aims to develop effective pest control techniques in hydroponic plants in Palalang Village, Pakong District, Pamekasan Regency. This study uses an experimental method with two treatments, namely pest control using pesticides and direct pest control, namely pest control by using hands directly to collect and destroy pests that attack plants. The results of the study showed that the combination treatment using pesticides and direct pest control can reduce the pest population and improve the quality and quantity of hydroponic plants. This technique has also been widely applied by the Pakong community and its surroundings, especially Palalang Village. Therefore, this pest control technique can be an effective alternative to control pests in hydroponic plants in Palalang Village, Pakong District, Pamekasan Regency.
Nurul IlmiBayuda Luqman Al-Farisi
